Best story from behind the wood | I was initially worried about serving a a guy who had just sat at my wood because he was acting really agitated and depressed. But for some reason instead of ignoring him or telling him to leave I decided to talk to him and we ended up talking for a good hour (close to closing time on a slow night) and I learned he was just a normal person having a rough day and he thanked me for taking the time to actually talk to him. It’s cliche but don’t judge a book by its cover, which is harder said than done especially in this industry where a first impression (or at most serving someone for maybe a few hours) is basically all you have to go by. It’s so easy to forget people have lives and friends and issues and accomplishments outside that moment and this is just a sliver of who they are.

Favourite thing about your city? The thriving hospitality industry where people are increasingly more interested, excited, and supportive of old and new ways of exploring what makes our food and drink culture inherent to understanding ourselves as a culture.
