We met Audrey Hands back in 2017 or so when she called Toronto home for a few years. Her professionalism and drive for life has always been an inspiration. With nearly two decades in hospitality, Audrey Hands brings a passion for advocacy and brand building that spans three continents. Born in London to French and English parents, Hands graduated from King’s College London with a degree in Hispanic and Portuguese studies, becoming fluent in five languages—French, Spanish, English, Portuguese, and Italian. In 2005, Hands began her career in hospitality, working in various roles across kitchens, dining rooms, and bars. But it was behind the bar where Hands truly found her calling, mastering her craft at some of the world’s most renowned cocktail destinations, from London’s legendary Trailer Happiness to Sydney’s Palmer & Co, and later Mexico City’s Maison Artemisia. In 2014, Hands made a pivotal shift into brand marketing, taking on the role of Global Brand Ambassador for Havana Club. She traveled the world, working with 70 countries to drive meaningful brand growth. By 2016, Audrey’s pursuit of balance led her to become a certified Vinyasa yoga instructor, integrating mental and physical well-being into her already dynamic career. Now, Hands brings her expertise and commitment to championing Mexican hospitality to Rayo Cocktail Bar and Fonico Restaurant in her role as Head of Strategic Partnerships and Guest Experiences.

Bartender Atlas: Where were you born?
Audrey Hands: London in the 80’s
BA: What city do you work in?
AH: Currently in Mexico City, but always on the move…
BA: Where do you go out to eat and drink on your days off?
AH: In Mexico City, I don’t go out that much in all honesty (I love to cook). Nonetheless I do have my little favourite hangouts: Contramar, Meroma, Tigre Silencioso, Maizajo plus ALL the street food!! For bars, we are spoilt with choice here. I try to go to as many as possible when in town and I am extremely proud to live in such a vibrant cocktail and gastronomic city!
BA: What do you do outside of work on your days off?
AH: As a consultant and freelance, I don’t have much time off! But when I do, those who know me, know I love to be upside down, literally! I practice handstands a lot, am a certified yoga teacher and love functional workouts as well. Spending time with close friends, exploring the city and culture.
BA: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
AH: Don’t be so hard on yourself.
BA: What’s something you’re excited about?
AH: I am currently working on some exciting projects with people I admire, which is exciting and inspiring! Furthermore, hopefully I will help continue the positive impacts in our industry 🤞
