Feragaia was developed and is made by drinkers with a background in spirits in the UK and US. Feragaia’s philosophy is to not rely on what it is trying to avoid – alcohol. They don’t use alcohol ever in the making process and they’re not mimicking the taste or trying to be a replacement for an existing spirit. Feragaia has a depth of flavour that can slow the drinker down and give the experience of ‘a drink’. It’s layered character makes it different from a daytime drink like soft drinks, tea, juice. It’s geared to adults who love a complex beverage.
Feragaia is made at Scotland’s first alcohol-free distillery in Fife, Scotland. They are challenging the rest of the category to be more transparent about their processes. They are a Certified B Corp. Every small batch is distillery-made beginning with locally grown botanicals. Creating Feragaia is a two-month process that involves harvesting, maceration, separate distillation, blending, resting and bottling. Essences and oils in the mix get distilled in a pot still that is run at higher temperatures (100 degrees and alcohol boils at 67 degrees). Light botanicals like lemon verbena, chamomile and sugar kelp are distilled separately to protect their flavour before being blended, rested, balanced with pure Scottish water and then bottled.
Feragaia is 0% abv, vegan, gluten-free and contains 0 sugar. It’s a complex spirit that reminds us of bitter amaris. It is great to sip on its own, to use in a cocktail or you can simply top with tonic, ginger ale or even Coke for a kick (think of the classic bartender favourite, Fernet & Coke!).
What do we like about Feragaia? Everything! We would say that this is more of a luxury non-alcoholic spirit that is totally worth it. Not many non-alcoholic spirits can be consumed neat but this one can. It’s so full of flavour that you do not even notice the absence of alcohol.
